Senate holds public hearing to discuss the proposals of the PLC 122.
Along with Senators will be the presidents of AOB and CNBB
The Senate Commission on Human Rights and Participative Legislation (HRC) today will hold another public hearing to discuss the draft law criminalizing homophobia. This time they will talk about the expansion of 7.716/1989 Act, which deals with discrimination due to race, religion and origin.
The idea is to add to this legislation the crimes of gender discrimination, gender and sexual orientation, this is the goal of PLC 122/2006 who has been on the agenda at the CHR in May this year, but was withdrawn for lack of understanding for a vote.
The proposal will be discussed with the presidents of the Bar Association of Brazil (OAB), Ophir Cavalcante, National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), Raymundo Damasceno Assis, and the Front National Christian Social Action and Politics (Fenasp) Wilton Coast.
The public hearing was suggested by Senator Magno Malta (PR-S) which is contrary to some items from the text of PL 122, as it relates to the controversial opinions against homosexuality, classifying them as a crime.
